NPQH Headteachers' Qualification - Announcement
The Government has recently announced that, from 2012, there will be no requirement for first-time headteachers to hold the NPQH qualification. This is in-line with current education policy to allow those who lead schools the freedom to make their own local decision.
A new version of NPQH will be launched in the Spring focusing more on leading teaching and learning, behaviour and performance management. It will also double the length of the school placement.
The NPQH programme is still recognised as the standard by which all headteachers can be measured. The government has demonstrated their belief in the value and importance of NPQH and continue to endorse it as the qualification of choice for anyone aspiring to headship. The programme will also continue to be subsidised. It will remain a rigorous national programme illustrating the competencies and abilities of all who have, and all who continue to, complete the NPQH.
This decision does not affect trainee headteachers currently undertaking NPQH with ELC and all are expected to graduate next year. Further details can be found on the National College website. Further information about NPQH in the East will be available on our website in due course.
