Since 2012 the Eastern Leadership Centre (ELC) has supported increased governor effectiveness and school improvement, through the leadership of the Leading Governance partnership. In close collaboration with the National Governors’ Association (NGA), LAs, MATs, Dioceses and others, Leading Governance has delivered a range of National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) national governor and clerk development programmes, training thousands of participants across the country.

Following a recent and thorough strategic review of ELC’s work and mission as a charity, we are delighted to announce the transition of ELC’s current work with the National Governance Programmes to the NGA. The NGA will, from April 2016, lead and manage the Leading Governance Partnership and national governance programmes under license from the NCTL.

Partners and learners do not need to do anything differently and the delivery of current and future Leading Governance programmes will continue via the NGA. The NCTL has also recently confirmed that licensed provision of current programmes and workshops will be extended until September 2017 and along with this, announced some very positive news about scholarships. It has been agreed that with immediate effect all participants on the Chairs’ and Clerks’ programmes from publicly funded schools will be able to access a £320 scholarship payment, regardless of the size of school. The Workshops for Raise online, Performance Related Pay and Financial Efficiency will also continue and be fully funded, subject to funding criteria.

The ELC has enjoyed a close working relationship with the NGA for many years. We are therefore delighted that the NGA will also provide a new home to Governor E-Learning (GEL) online learning for governors, clerks and school leaders.
