Professional leadership training and events for the eastern region

Early Leaders

Early Leaders Programme
A course for existing and aspirant children’s centre leaders - (pre-NPQICL)

Following consultation with several Lead Officers for Children Centre development in the East region, it was agreed that the development and provision of a ‘pre-NPQICL’ programme for aspirant NPQICL applicants is required. This is necessary in order to grow the leaders who are able to apply for the Masters level NPQICL and to pre-empt the NPQICL’s requirements around reflection, analysis and academic writing.

This programme enables participants to focus on their continuing professional development in order to enhance their own professional practice and awareness of their developing leadership skills.

It will do this against a background of theoretical knowledge and research and the context of national and local initiatives. Participants will be developed as reflective practitioners in order to focus on key areas of their own skills, abilities and knowledge around working and leading in partnership.

This will take the form of a 3 day ‘taught’ programme, delivered by 2 experienced facilitators from Early Years and Children Centre background.

Aims of programme:

This programme aims through discussion, group activities, reading, assignments and seminar presentations to give participants the opportunity to:

  • Network with colleagues from across the region.
  • Explore academic writing and debunk fears of low attainment (develop confidence).
  • Discuss and debate notions of leadership within a partnership working framework (with an opportunity to engage with the notion of pedagogical leadership).
  • Develop awareness and ability to reflect on how they are leaders.
  • Gain an introduction to inter-professional enquiry as personal development.
  • Explore their CPD and increase self awareness of their strengths and areas for development.
  • The cost of the programme is £475 per participant

Currently two intakes have been planned:

October 2008 - this intake is fully subscribed
January 2009 - places still available
