Coaching & Mentoring Programme
Coaching – 'Nothing Happens but first a Dream’ is a coaching workshop designed to help participants distinguish between mentoring & coaching, to identify when it is appropriate to use coaching and to give them some of the skills needed to coach successfully. It is aimed at all staff at all stages in their professional career as the skills of coaching can be used to support at all levels.
The workshop is run over two days.
Days 1 & 2 – Coaching to improve performance
Day 1
In this practical workshop participants initially look at the characteristics of mentoring & coaching, consider the skills needed to coach including the ability to ask open-ended questions and an awareness of the need to develop listening skills. Participants are introduced to a range of theoretical coaching models. In the afternoon, there is a practical session where candidates are introduced to effective coaching and have an opportunity to practise coaching themselves.
Day 2
Participants explore the skills in relation to coaching competencies; consider how they would introduce coaching in their own schools, looking at protocols and practice, reflect on effective and ineffective coaching, explore beliefs and values, consider barriers to coaching and are introduced to advanced communication skills in relations to coaching and have the opportunity to apply these in further practice.
