Programme Structure
Key Concepts
Leading from the Middle is a programme designed to identify and develop the leadership skills and behaviours of middle leaders. Participants will deepen their knowledge and understanding of the role of the middle leader through a process of self-directed learning within a blended learning environment. The programme itself consists of

Participants work in Learning Sets consisting of between 2 and 4 teachers from the school, working together with a Leadership Coach who is school-based and generally a member of the senior leadership team.
Schedule
There are 2 regional cohorts each year, starting in September and April. Deadlines for application rounds will be posted both on this website and on the NCSL website, with places being allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
Programme costs
NCSL subsides part of the participant fee and schools currently pay £480 per middle leader. The school contribution will be invoiced at the start of the programme which begins with the Leadership Coach training day. There is no additional charge for the support and training of the leadership coach. Schools will also have to pay any supply and travel costs. All costs for participants from schools with fewer than 100 pupils (on the January 2007 census return) are met by NCSL, including an allowance for supply and travel costs.
Additional information about the programme is available from the LftM website produced by NCSL. This site contains further information for middle leaders and coaches and is also where you can find the online application form to enroll onto the LftM programme.
