Extended Services

PATHFINDER PROJECT

For your information: To be aware

As you may be aware there is a pathfinder process running nationally which is aiming at making extended services available to the most economically disadvantaged. The whole project will begin its national roll-out in April 2009 with all LAs rolling it out to 1 or 2 clusters in their area before a full scale roll-out in April 2010. As you may expect, this is still in the pathfinder phase so many of the details within which we will operate in April are yet to be finalised. However, as many of you are drafting plans for next year it is important you factor this project into thinking now.

If you have any queries regarding this project please contact either Martin or the subsidy team directly on es.subsidy@tda.gov.uk

LETTER FROM MINISTER

For your information: To be aware

Following up from all your hard work to notify your schools of their full core offer (FCO) status the minister, Beverley Hughes MP, has sent the letter that can be found through the link below to all full core offer schools in the country congratulating them and notifying them of the fact this status will be shown on the DirectGov website. Please note, the letter also gives the school the opportunity of contacting the DSCF if they do not believe their school is meeting the FCO status. We will keep you posted if this becomes an issue. This may also prompt the school to contact you about this. If there are any issues arising from this letter please let us know how we can help.

For your information: To be aware

Please find below a link to an article from last week’s Guardian on the benefits of extended services. Schools interviewed include those in Birmingham and East London.

Guardian Education: Back to school - Benefits of extended learning
Sarah Jewell

The school day has changed: it's been extended from 8am-6pm and pupils are encouraged to start the day with a breakfast club and finish with an after-school club. This is great news for working parents - now you can top and tail the day with good-quality child care at your child's school.
