The pilot schools found that Developing Capacity, Sustaining Improvement has been a positive tool to bring about change, and that the following benefits were experienced:
- improved development planning with a long-term perspective, greater coherence and more control of the agenda for change;
- more determined and systematic focus on learning, particularly teacher training;
- more radical change during the next stage of improvement more effective senior leadership team and better relationships with middle level leaders;
- beneficial working in partnerships during the implementation phase; and
- sustained commitment to a programme of professional development (from all sides)
