Certificate of School Administration

The Eastern Leadership Centre (ELC) is offering administrative staff in schools the opportunity to gain a new qualification - The Certificate in School Administration (CSA).

ELC has successfully delivered the programme leading to the award of Certificate in School Business Management (CSBM) for the last 5 years and has recognised the need for other courses to meet the needs of admin staff in schools. The CSA course has been specially designed as an initial qualification in school administration.

The course takes approximately 6 months to complete and consist of 3 face-to-face modules. The modules cover:

Module 1: Knowing your School

  • Understanding your organisation
  • Managing the organisation
  • Administering the school systems
  • Module 2: Working with People

  • Work, jobs and people
  • Dealing with change
  • Working in teams
  • Module 3: Knowing your Role

  • Managing information
  • Technology in administration
  • Improving administrative practice
  • The course also includes:

  • Completion of a work project related to improving an aspect of your current role
  • Tutor support throughout the course
  • Access to an online community for tutor support and communication with other participants
  • Assessment fees
  • Registration fee (the course is accredited through the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM))
  • Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive two awards:

  • The Institute of Adminstrative Management's Certificate in Administration
  • Manchester Metropolitan University's Certificate in School Adminstration
  • This programme is offered locally and, in some cases, may be part-funded by the Local Authority.
